Eckford Street Studio Summer Art Workshop Guidelines

Drop off and pick up
Our day runs from 9am to 4pm; campers may be dropped off beginning at 8:45. 8am drop-off is available for $10/day; and extended day hours until 6pm are available Monday through Thursday for a fee of $30 per day.

Lunch and Snacks
Students must bring their own snacks and lunches. If your child has food sensitivities, ESS will omit those foods from our offerings. We discourage sharing of food, and while we are not typically a nut-free space, we can ask families not to send certain foods if your child has severe allergies. ESS has a water purifier; we ask that campers bring a bottle to refill.

Field trips
Getting out into the neighborhood to look for big ideas in the real world is an important part of inspiring little artists’ work! Planned trips this summer include local businesses, public art, and explorations of neighborhood spaces. Most weeks, we will set out on our trips Wednesday mornings at 9:15 sharp; it is especially important campers arrive on time this day. If an outdoor trip is planned and the weather is inclement, we will visit an alternative indoor destination, but will still need to travel to the site, so please make sure your child is dressed in weather appropriate clothing.

Additional Outdoor Time
When weather permits, we will lunch in the Park; we recommend your child arrive at camp with sunscreen applied. We will undoubtedly cool off in the sprinklers, so please send either a suit or dry change of clothes. We will also take walks with our sketchbooks on occasion.

Clothing
Please clearly label all of your child’s clothing with their name. Mix-ups happen easily when everyone is changing in and out of sprinkler clothes.

Art is messy! We provide aprons for little artists to wear, but recommend they come dressed in clothes that can get dirty. Please also send a change of clothes, in a plastic bag with labeled your child’s name, on the first day of camp in case of extra-messy mishaps.

Health and Safety
We take very seriously the trust you have placed in us in caring for your children while they are with us, in and out of the studio. A staff member certified in CPR and first aid is present at all times, and a well-stocked first aid kit travels with us wherever we take your little artists. For everyone's comfort and safety, please DO NOT send your child to camp sick.

Exhibition
At the end of each week of camp, artists will curate and hang an exhibition of the work they made. This is a special process of reflecting on and celebrating everything they learned and experienced during their week in the studio. Caregivers, friends, and family are invited to ESS to view the exhibition from 2:30-3:30 on Friday. Artwork should be collected and taken home at the end of this exhibition. Unfortunately, we do not have room to store work after the session is over and will be forced to discard anything left behind.
